Abstract

The Korean Peninsula is a region which in contemporary times bears
witness to one of the longest-spanning conflicts in human history. The
conflict began soon after the end of World War (WW) II with the political
separation of the region into two starkly different entities. The conflict,
which mainly is between the state of Democratic People of Korea (DPRK,
also known as North Korea) and the state of Republic of Korea (ROK, also
known as South Korea) has apparently intensified to involve foreign states.
This conflict had even become an open warfare with the goal of reunifying
the separated North Korea and South Korea through violent means, which
failed. Until now, the condition is of an unstable armistice. Seen from the
perspective of North Korea, there exist several key factors that prevent any
successful peaceful reunification. Some of these factors are the leadership of
Kim Jong-un up until the year 2017 and the state ideology Juche. Another
factor includes the intervention of foreign states, which is deemed by North
Korea as causing the failure of reunification of North Korea and South
Korea peacefully until 2017
