Abstract

Hypertension is a condition where the blood pressure increase above the normal
threshold that is 120/80 mmHg. The prevalence of hypertension based on Riskesdas
2018 age ≥18 years is 34.1%. Because of this high number of hypertension incidence,
a proper handling that lead to effective treatment is needed. This study was conducted
to determine patient characteristics, treatment patterns and the incidence of Drug
Related Problems (DRPs) in hypertensive patients in Inpatient Installation at PKU
Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta.
This research is a non-experimental research with descriptive characteristic in
cross sectional method. The sampling technique in this study uses total sampling. The
data was obtained retrospectively from 62 medical records of hypertensive patients
with both comorbid and non-comorbidities in the Inpatient Installation of PKU
Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta in the period January 2018 - May 2019. In this
research study, DRPs event were using Cipolle et al 2012, which analyzes based on
reference from Stockley’s Drug Interaction Handbook, Drug Information Handbook
17th and other related journals.
The results showed that the characteristics of hypertension patients based on sex
were mostly found in women, as many as 39 patients (63%), the characteristics of
patients based on age were found the most at the age of 55-64 years old in 20 patients
(32%), the number of patients without comorbidities were 31 patients (50%) and the
duration of hospitalization in most patients was 2 days, with total 20 patients (32.3%).
The pattern of treatment in monotherapy was 19.4%, the combination of two drugs
was 51.7%, the combination of three drugs was 20.9%, the combination of four drugs
was 6.4% and the combination of five drugs was 1.6%. The results of the
identification of DRPs that occur in hypertensive patients in Inpatient Installation
PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta is as many as 47 cases from 62 medical
records are drug interactions by 60%, drugs without indication by 19%, inappropriate
selection of drugs 15% and excess doses by 6%.
