Abstract

This study explains the motive of the using of propaganda by United Kingdom against
Russia after the Scripal case 2018. By using the concept of Diplomacy by KM Panikkar and
the concept of propaganda by Tulus Warsito and Wahyuni Kartikasari, the motive for Britain
to use anti-Russia propaganda is because Britain aims to gain recognition as the influential
country amidst the deterioration of its image post Brexit.By using Russia as the common
enemy in the land of Europe, Britain tried to attract the sympathy of the public, especially the
European public, to then follow Britain’s steps to sanction Russia. Britain then showed its
intention to remain recognized as a country that Europe still needed in the security and
military fields even though Britain left the European Union. The propaganda carried out by
the Britain also promotes British discourse to expand into “Global Britain”. This research
proves that British propaganda that puts Russia on the guilty side in this case is the first step
for Britain to restore its image and get recognition that Britain is still an influential country
in Europe to launch further foreign policy.
