Abstract

In the laws of Republic of Indonesia, the article number 3 in UU No. 20/ 2003 about National
Education System, it is mentioned that national education has the functions to develop the
ability and to build the character of the nation civilization that has dignity in order to educate
the life of the nation, to develop the potential of the students so that they have faith in God the
Almighty, noble moral, health, knowledge, skill, creativity, and independence, and become
citizens who are democratic and responsible. The research aims at finding out the religiousity
coaching method of the class IX students at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta. The theory
used was religiousity coaching method by Hery Noer Aly that consisted of: (1) Habituation
Method; (2) Exemplary Method; (3) Giving Advice Method. The researcher chose SMP
Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta as the location of the research because this school is one of
Muhammadiyah schools in Yogyakarta that is leading in academic aspect and has a vision to
realize the students with faith or religiousity. In 2019, SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta
became a modelling school that had many achievements and became leading in the character.
This research used qualitative method by doing observation, interview, and documentation.
Meanwhile, the informants that were interviewed were counselling teacher, class IX students,
and parents or guardians of the students. The results of the research were: (1) The religiousity
coaching method like habituation, exemplary, and giving advice has been implemented by
counselling teachers of SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta (2) The activity of religiousity
coaching at SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta like Al-Qur’an recitation, performing dhuha
prayer, giving alms on Fridays (infaq jum’at) and hadith and short surahs or prayers
memorization are done regularly everyday (3) The religiousity coaching method at SMP
Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta builds the students to be discipline, honest, responsible, having
character, and assertive.
