Abstract
Tamarindus indica contains of many substances that very useful to cure various diseases like influenza, fever, stomachache, diarrhea, and jaundice, and also could inhibit the activity of bacteria in the body. There are many kind active substances of Tamarindus indica like alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, phlobatamins, sesquiterpenens and tannins. The purpose of this study is to determine the antimicrobial activity of Tamarindus indica against several pathogenic microbial.
This research is an experimental research laboratory with research subjects is the infusion of tamarind fruits with tested pathogen microba Escherichia coil ATCC 25922, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923, Candida albican ATCC 10231. The research sample is obtained from the Central Laboratory of Microbiology of Yogyakarta. Antimicrobial activity demonstrated by looking at the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Kill Concentration (MBC) infusa tamarindus indica fruit to the germ tube serial dilution method.
The results of this study showed that the MIC and MBC of infusa of Tamarindus indica fruit are respectively of Escherichia coli are 2,604 gr% and 5,208 gr%, Staphylococcus aureus are 1,562 gr% and 3,125 gr%, Candida albicans are 41,66 gr% and >50 gr%.
The conclusion from these results are infusa Tamarindus indica fruit has antimicrobial activity against the bacteria Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Candida albicans standards.
