Abstract

Parenting is the first form of education that a child acquires in the family environment through parents. Democratic parenting is preferable since its implementation is in line with parents’ expectations without neglecting children’s flexibility in freely choosing and developing their characters. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between democratic parenting proposed by Diana Baumrind in several journals and books with the family education method proposed by Saiful Falah in his book entitled "Parents Power" towards the characters of children. This study uses qualitative method with descriptive qualitative type. The approach used is library research. The results show that the democratic parenting proposed by Baumrind along with the education methods in family brought by Saiful Falah has implementational interrelation. Democratic parenting can be generally implemented using the educational method in the family as suggested by Saiful Falah in order to create a generation with positive characters.
