Abstract

This study aims to describe how the stages in the therapeutic communication process between psychologists and patients with schizophrenia in the Community-Based Social Protection House (RPSBM) in Pekalongan City. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. Data collection techniques in this study were through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation techniques. The technique of taking research informants used purposive sampling, namely the technique of collecting data sources with certain criteria, testing the validity of the data using triangulation techniques or methods, and data analysis techniques using several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research through the process from beginning to end, show that in RPSBM Pekalongan City there is a therapeutic communication practice which has four stages, namely the preparation stage (pre-interaction), the introduction stage (orientation), the work stage, and the termination stage. Through this study, it was found that the therapeutic method applied to patients with schizophrenia was carried out by providing daily activities and increasing communication. For this reason, the therapy applied is using cognitive behavioral therapy (cognitive behavior therapy), which aims to create new patterns of thinking and behavior in a positive direction for the development of the patient's condition, as well as social therapy which aims to reduce the intensity of the symptoms of hallucinations in patients with providing daily activities and also directing patients to interact a lot, both with fellow patients and with officers or nurses in place which are applied to patients at the work stage.
