Abstract

This research aims to explain the motivation for performing the morning prayer in congregation for the worshipers of the Al-Musyawaroh mosque in the Tegalwangi hamlet, Tamantirto, Kasihan Bantul Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. This research used interview, observation, and documentation techniques in collecting data. The results of this study reveal that the motivation of the congregation in performing the morning prayer in congregation is that they have strong intrinsic motivations with high intensity (often) in performing it, which are to gain Allah’s blessing, to expect His heaven and to collect as much reward as possible. In addition, scientifically, performing the morning prayer in congregation can support a better quality of health and social life. For various age groups, the equation is that they think that the world is only temporary that will be left behind and that there is an eternal afterlife, namely heaven or hell. The young age category understands that it is important to choose a good (sholeh) environment so that it can remind them when they are not in the spirit of worship and like to gather in dialogue about Islam. Then the elderly category is more dominant in their awareness to prepare for death that feels closer.
