Abstract

The fundraising strategy of amil zakat institutions both National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAZ) and Amil Zakat Institution (LAZ) is different accordance to their management system. The implemented fundraising strategy determines the institution’s success in raising zakat, infaq, and sadaqah (ZIS) funds. The object of this research is Amil Zakat Infak and Alms Institution of Muhammadiyah (LAZISMU) Gamping. LAZISMU Gamping was the largest ZIS funds collector in Sleman regency in 2021, and became the service office of LAZISMU with the best corporate fundraising and retail fundraising in Yogyakarta in 2020. Therefore, the researcher was interested in investigating the fundraising strategy carried out by LAZISMU Gamping. This research employed a qualitative method where the data were obtained by conducting interview with the leader of LAZISMU Gamping, observation and documentation. The findings show that LAZISMU Gamping implements two methods in carrying out its fundraising strategy. The first method is direct fundraising which is done by collecting funds from muzakki (zakat givers) while the second method is indirect fundraising which is done through the chairman and representatives of each sub-branch office in the Muhammadiyah Gamping branch leadership. Moreover, LAZISMU Gamping also collaborates with the Muhammadiyah business charity (AUM) and forms amil structures for each subbranch leadership. The main obstacle faced by LAZISMU Gamping in maintaining the system that has been built is maintaining the cooperation with the business charity and sub-branch leadership.
