Abstract

Recep Tayyip Erdogan has served as Turkey's President in 2014. Before becoming president, Erdogan has served as Prime Minister of Turkey for two periods. Erdogan's election victory in Turkey always gets the support from his party, AKP (Adalet ye Kalkinma Partition I Justice and Development Party). AKP is the party founded by Erdogan to bring him to power in Turkey. Because of dissatisfaction with the previous parties, Erdogan along with his supporters decided to make the AKP's pro-Western. Although this party is a party that is pro-western, AKP still holds secular ideology in the party. Previously, the existence of secular party is very difficult to survive in Turkey. However, the emergence of the AKP brings enlightenment to Turkey, where the secular party has the vision of modernization and is open to western countries.
AKP victory in 2002 and 2007 on the parliamentary elections brings positive impact for the leader of AKP, Erdogan. This victory gives a lot of votes for the AKP in the parliamentary seats. A majority in parliament is dominated by the AKP. It is advantageous for Erdogan in making decisions, because Erdogan is supported by the AKP loyal to Erdogan. Erdogan's power as Prime Minister in Turkey is more active than the position of President of Turkey. It is because Turkey adopts Parliamentarians.
