Abstract

Saudi Arabia is a country located in the Arabian Peninsula, directly adjacent to Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, Persian Gulf, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Yemen and the Red Sea. Saudi Arabia is also a country that uses a Kingdom or Monarchy system. One of the Middle Eastern countries that have had bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia is Syria. The two countries established cooperative relations in the economic field which began in 1950 when a trade agreement was signed by the government of Saudi Arabia. However, Saudi Arabia began to change its diplomatic direction when Syria was hit by a conflict crisis since 2011. Syria is a country that was also affected by the Arab Spring phenomenon, At that time the Syrian people demanded reform of the government structure and a change of leader. This study wants to describe the reasons behind the changes in Saudi Arabia's foreign policy towards Syria after the 2011 Syrian conflict crisis by using a qualitative approach.
