Abstract

Asumsi Distrik program is an audio-visual program attempted to display the closer characteristics of society life in the form of documentary. Mengurai Manggarai is an episode that unveils the representation of Muslim society in Manggarai indicated a part of city poverty. The critical discourse analysis model of Teun A.van Dijk was used to connect the existing texts with the context of social reality. The elements of themes, schemes, semantics, stylistics, syntax, and rhetorical texts show how Asumsi media tries to construct the reality of Manggarai society that must be faced with flood problem, negative framing of mass media, and eviction by the government with full empathy. The Islamic symbols that emerged reflect how the Muslim society became the victims of marginalization by the system built by the government without any certainty of their fate when evicted. The findings of the research are validation that the Asumsi media successfully prioritizes its independence. In addition, through the program of Mengurai Manggarai, the representation of stereotypes and identity is fulfilled.
