Abstract
Discipline is the most important thing to get used to. Because discipline is an obligation that must be obeyed by every individual in order to be organized in carrying out his life. With discipline, it can make someone a responsible person. Dormitory supervisors are people who are influential in the disciplinary enforcement process for students at the Pondok Pesantren Modern (Modern Islamic Boarding School) Baitussalam Prambanan From the research result, it was found out that the interpersonal communication carried out by the dormitory supervisor and the santri which was in accordance with the theory of Joseph A. Devito, namely: (1) openness; (2) empathy; (3) supportiveness; (4) positiveness; and (5) equality could create effective interpersonal communication so that it could increase the discipline of the santri in the place. Meanwhile, the use of the language style that was easy to understand when the supervisor delivered the advice and instruction, the process of the advice delivery which was directly carried out, and the intensity of the delivery of the advice and instruction which was repeatedly conducted could be the supporting factors so that the effort to increase the discipline of the santri can be successful. However, in the implementation, the supervisor still had to face santri who were having high emotion, easy to be desperate, feeling as senior, and different habits and cultural background in which, they became the hampering factors that had to be faced and solved by the dormitory supervisor.
