Abstract
Management of plastic waste is a problem in the community, especially PVC plastic. PVC plastic is a material that cannot be naturally decomposed (nonbiodegradable), so it is inappropriate to manage plastic waste by landfill or open dumping. Another plastic waste management is by recycling plastic waste into other forms. The purpose of this study was to determine how the PVC waste chopper machine works and to make variations of the blade on the PVC plastic waste chopper. The working principle of this chopper machine is to use a diesel engine type R175 with a maximum power of 7 HP (horse power) with an engine speed of 2600 RPM which is used to rotate the blades with claw cutter and rell types. In this study, there are two variations of the blade, namely with 9 blades and 6 blades. The variation of the blades can affect the time and yield in the chopping process. The results of the study showed that the chopping machine using 9 blades took 7 minutes to chop 1 kg of PVC waste in the chopped shape with an average size of 2 - 10 mm. while the chopping machine uses 6 blades it takes 9 minutes to chop 1 kg of PVC waste with the chopped size of 5 - 20 mm. The more blades used, the faster the chopping time and the smaller the chopping shape.
