Abstract

<p>The new social movement was marked by the emergence of the Gejayan Summoning Movement which was carried out on 23 and 30 September 2019 in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The rise of demonstrations, which brought thousands of people, was a response to government policies that were considered to be detrimental to the public. This research uses a qualitative approach with interview and news methods using this type of explanative research with the aim of finding a new social movement in the Gejayan Summoning Movement in 2019 so that it can explore resource mobilization, movement issues and ideology. Research Results New social movements pay attention to <em>life politics </em><em>rather</em> than <em>emancipatory</em>politics as in the old social movements. Meanwhile, membership of new social movements is open regardless of social class background, politics and ethnicity. So that a new social movement can be categorized as an inclusive association initiated by actors and followed by groups that consciously mobilize themselves to jointly struggle.</p>
