Abstract

This study examines the policies of the Indonesian government in supporting gender equality in Afghanistan through diplomatic relations during the administration of President Joko Widodo (2019–2024). The main focus of this research is on how the Indonesian government has played a role in promoting women's rights amidst the political and social crisis in Afghanistan following the Taliban’s return to power, particularly through the provision of scholarships for Afghan women. This study employs a qualitative approach, using data collected through literature review and interviews with Afghan postgraduate students currently studying at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The findings highlight Indonesia’s efforts to promote gender equality through its foreign policy, including through dialogue, development cooperation, and participation in international forums to advocate for the protection and empowerment of Afghan women. These policies reflect Indonesia's commitment to supporting the peace process in Afghanistan.
