Abstract
Roads are the transportation infrastructure that most served the movement of people and goods by prioritizing safety, one of which is the geometric factor of the road. Nanggulan – Mendut road section, Kulon Progo is a provincial road with a
primary collector road function. This road has bends with dangerous road geometries and risk of traffic accidents. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the geometric, horizontal alignment (AH), and vertical alignment (AV) of Nanggulan – Mendut street. Specifically, this study aimed to determine the type of accident, the existing condition of the road with the regulations of the Directorate General of
Highways (2020) on Road Geometric Design Guidelines, analyze the geometric relationship of the road with accidents, and geometric recommendations by modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D software 2015. The method used in this study includes secondary and primary data analysis. Based on the analysis, the highest accident cases occurred in 2019 as many as 32 cases with the type of accident dominated by a single accident as many as 14 cases. Based on the geometric
measurements of the road, the number of lanes, and the width of the shoulders were following the regulations, but the lane widths were not following the Bina Marga regulations (2020). The road modeling using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2015 software shown that Nanggulan – Mendut street has 16 AH with 13 bends that are not meet the minimum radius, and 13 AV with 3 slopes and 8 vertical curves that do not meet the regulations. The recommendation made changes the length of the road from 2,500 meters to 2,229 meters. AH changed to 8 curves with 5 spiral-spiral curves (S-S) and 3 spiral-circle-spiral curves (S-C-S), while AV consists of 3 convex curvesand 3 concave curves.
