Abstract

Background: Nurse caring behavior is the core of nursing where nurses must be respectful and responsive to patient preferences, values and needs. Caring behavior is influenced by several factors including workload, lack of time, and burnout. A nurse with a high tendency to burnout will experience a loss of motivation, boredom and affect work professionalism, especially towards caring behavior of nurses to patients. This study aims to analyze the effect of work engagement on nurses caring behavior with burnout as an intervening variable. Method: this research uses quantitative with cross sectional approach. The number of samples in this study amounted to 74 nurses. The sampling technique used in this study used purposive sampling. The research instrument used was a questionnaire. The analysis used is path analysis. Results and Discussion: The statistical test results of work engagement with burnout variables on nurses with a significance level (p 0.005; B -0.332) there is an influence of work engagement with burnout on nurses with a negative direction. work engagement with nurses caring behavior with a significance level (p 0.012; B 0.293) there is an influence of work engagement with nurses caring behavior with a positive direction. While burnout with nurses caring behavior with a significance level (p 0.044; B- 0.232) because the significance ≤0.05 means that there is an influence of burnout with nurses caring behavior with a negative direction. The result of the sobel t-test value is greater than the table (1,706> 1,669), so there is an influence of work engagement on nurses caring behavior with burnout as an intervening variable. Conclusion: Work engagement has a negative and significant effect on burnout in nurses. Work engagement has a positive and significant effect on nurses caring behavior. Burnout has a negative and significant effect on nurses caring behavior. Work engagement influences and significantly affects nurses caring behavior with burnout as an intervening variable.
