Abstract

This study discusses the communication patterns that occur in a toy community of Jogja Street Mini 4WD in Yogyakarta. On daily basis, the members of the Jogja Street Mini 4WD community speak as people in general, but the communication that takes place within the Jogja Street Mini 4WD community is quite distinct and has different traits amongst the Street Mini 4WD communities in other areas. The data obtained was a description of how the communication patterns occur in the community. Researchers obtained data with qualitative descriptive methods supported by interpretive paradigms to conduct in-depth interviews with community members. The research subjects were then determined using the criteria that were previously set. Researchers adopt the Hymes theory that reveals six elements of communication patterns. From the data obtained, the researchers found various uniqueness in the communication patterns of the Jogja Street Mini 4WD community as a verbal language used for communication in daily life. The communication between members of the community uses non-formal language so that messages, opinions, and suggestions are easily accepted by other members. In brief, the community is found to have a new and distinctive communication pattern where the members speak in non-formal language such as "Victim of The Day, Supreme Champion".
