Abstract

Background : Colles fractures or distal radius fractures are one of the various types of fractures that commonly occur in the wrist. Colles fracture is 15% of all fracture events in adults. Among the several complications that occur in colles fractures, the most common complication is Joint Stiffness. Anxiety is one of the various factors that are strongly associated with an increased risk of disability and pain intensity in patients with musculoskeletal disorders. So it needs to be examined whether there is a relationship between the level of anxiety and the degree of joint stiffness in colles fracture patients. Methods : The design of this study was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional approach. Data collection was carried out in the physiotherapy department of PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital in March-October 2018 using the questionnaire interview method. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test Result : Among the total respondents 13 people, 9 people (69.2%) did not experience anxiety, 1 person (7.7%) had mild anxiety, 1 person (7.7%) was moderate and 2 others were severe (15.4%) . While the degree of joint stiffness, 3 people (23.1%) mild stiffness, 3 people (23.1%) moderate stiffness, 6 people (46.2%) severe stiffness and 1 (7.7%) very severe stiffness. The statistical test value of the relationship between the level of anxiety and the degree of joint stiffness in colles fracture patients was found to be insignificant (p = 0.808). Conclusion : There is no correlation between the level of anxiety and the degree of joint stiffness in colles fracture patients undergoing physiotherapy at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping Hospital.
