Abstract

In the beginning of 2018, North Korea became a trending topic worldwide as it participation in PyeongChang Winter Olympic 2018 that held in South Korea. This participation was the very first time for this country in South Korea, after did the boycott toward the Seoul Summer Olympic 1988 which also held in South Korea. It participation in this sport Olympic was not without an aim. The interests which it country wanted to attain for the national prosperity were the factor that drove this country especially the leader to take the decision. The Concept of National Interest and the Model of Foreign Policy Decision-Making by William D. Coplin were applied to analyze the factor of the North Koreas participation in PyeongChang Winter Olympic 2018. The Concept of National Interest applied to analyze the national condition of North Korea, and the model by Coplin to analyze the substance as an input in decision-making process of North Korea related to it participate. Through those frameworks showed that the economic and politics interests were the factors of North Koreas Participation in PyeongChang Winter Olympic 2018. In the politics matter, the decision supported by the bureaucracy and as a tool to demonstrate North Koreas national prestige in international arena. For the economic matter, it was the first step of North Korea indirectly to rebuild the economic cooperation with South Korea.
