Abstract

The increase of cabbage production in Bumijawa sub-district is not matched by the increase of cabbage prices at farmer level. Cabbage farmers keep doing cabbage farming despite the price of cabbage tend to go down and unstable. In doing cabbage farming, farmers have a motivation. This research aims to describe the motivation of farmers in cabbage farming and to describe the relationship between influencing factors with motivation of farmers in cabbage farming. This research was designed with descriptive analysis method. The location of research selected by purposive sampling and conducted in Batumirah Village with consideration it has high cabbage production and become the recommended area for the export of cabbage. Sampling method was used proportional random sampling. Primary data was collected from 65 respondents through interview. Data analysis technique was used descriptive analysis and Rank Spearman Correlation. The result of analysis shows that the motivation of farmers in cabbage farming is at medium level. While see in each motivation are existence needs at medium level, relatedness needs at high level and growth needs at low level. Rank Spearman correlation result showed that internal factors such as age, formal education, training, counseling, farming experience and income have a significant relationship with the motivation of farmers. On external factors, only the availability of capital has a relationship with the motivation of farmers in cabbage farming.
