Abstract
As an agricultural country, the agricultural sector plays significant role in meeting food
needs and supporting the country's economy. The 70th General Assembly of the United
Nations has produced new agreement on the agenda entitled “Transforming Our World:
2030 for sustainable development, but in Indonesia there are several problems in its
implementation. One of the main problems is the emphasize that given more on
economic progress without paying attention to the environment, causing environmental
damage and social problems. The purpose of this study is to analyze the government
responsibility and policy towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in achieving
sustainable agricultural productivity in Indonesia. This research belongs to normative
legal research with a statutory and analytical approaches to the problem of agricultural
development in Indonesia. By using qualitative descriptive method, this study reveals
the government regulations and policies related to SDGs in achieving sustainable
agricultural development. The results show that Indonesian government has regulated
sustainable agricultural productivity to reach the SDGs, especially the second SDGs,
namely ending hunger by revitalizing agriculture, increasing the competitiveness and
value added of agricultural commodities and biodiversity protection and management.
The regulatory framework has not been effective because the related regulations are
neither optimal nor comprehensive
