Abstract
Nowadays, English is taught at schools and universities as a global language
to communicate globally. In language learning, motivation is considered as major
significant factors which plays an important role in learning English. The researcher
aimed to find out the motives of students to learn English at the International Program
of English for Communication and to find out the factors that motivate students to
learn English in the teaching and learning process at the International Program of
English for Communication of a Private University in Bangkok. The researcher
applied qualitative approach using descriptive qualitative research design. The
researcher interviewed three male and three female students from batch 2018 as the
participants. The findings showed the types of students’ motivation to learn English
at the International Program of English for Communication is Instrumental
motivation and Integrative motivation. Meanwhile, the factors that motivate students
to learn English in the teaching and learning process at the International Program of
English for Communication included classroom physical condition, method of
teaching, teachers’ support, parental factors and learning English for future career.
This research study provides the information about the types of students’ motivation
and the factors that motivate student to learn English in the teaching and learning
process to help the students, teachers and institution understand and find an
appropriate means to handle students' motivation in learning English to successful.
