Abstract

A woman is often depicted as someone who is less fortunate in a media.
Gender injustice makes women experiencing a role shift in society. Gender
injustice can be in the form of stereotypes, subordination, marginalization, violence
and multiple workloads.
The objective of the research is to reveal how the women's identity is
represented in the film of Athirah. This research uses the analysis method of Roland
Barthes semiotics in which each scene has an implied meaning that will be
connected through a myth believed by society. The researcher found the identity of
the woman shown to the audience in Athirah's film is in accordance with the reality
in the society.
