Abstract

English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta conducts translation class which aims to lead the students in translation and giving them the basic knowledge of translation. However, the students face many problems in translation especially in linguistic problems. This study aimed to know the students linguistic difficulties in translating a narrative text. Data were collected from five students of batch 2013 and they were selected from the fourth year of the English Education Department undergraduate students. To gather the data, the researcher applied interview. Specifically, the data were analyzed using three steps coding which were open, axial and selective coding. Subsequently, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative to explain the result of data.
