Abstract

The relatively high intensity of antibiotic use in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
raises various global problems and threats to health, especially bacterial resistance to
antibiotics. By evaluating the use of antibiotics in the ICU, a review can be made
regarding the administration of antibiotics to control and reduce the incidence of
resistance in the ICU. This study aims to determine the profile of antibiotic use and
quantitative evaluation of antibiotic use in patients who received antibiotics and were
treated at ICU Panembahan Senopati Bantul Regional Hospital during 2018 - 2019.
Panembahan Senopati Bantul Regional Hospital was chosen because it is a
government-owned hospital that is referred by the people of Bantul.
This study is an observational study with sampling using a total sampling
method where the total number of patients who met the inclusion criteria were 95
patients. Data collection was carried out retrospectively by taking data from the
medical records of patients who received antibiotics and were treated at ICU of
Panembahan Senopati Bantul Regional Hospital during 2018 - 2019. The data collected
were then evaluated quantitatively using the ATC / DDD method and 90% DU.
The results of this study indicate that ceftriaxone is the most widely prescribed
antibiotic in patients treated at ICU Panembahan Senopati Bantul Hospital in 2018 -
2019. Based on the results of the evaluation by the ATC DDD method it was found
that ceftriaxone was the most widely used antibiotic in the amount of 19.95 DDD / 100
patient-days. It means that in 100 days of care there were 19-20 patients who received
ceftriaxone antibiotics by 2 grams. In addition, there are 9 types of antibiotics that
include in the DU 90% segment. They are ceftriaxone, metronidazole, meropenem,
levofloxacin, ceftazidime, imipenem, ampicillin-sulbactam, cefotaxime and
fosfomycin. The 90% DU segment represents the most prescribed antibiotic for use.
