THAILAND'S DIPLOMACY TO HAVE THAKSIN SHINAWATRA EXTRADITED FROM BRITISH FOLLOWING THE COUP FROM 2006 UNTIL 2008

This undergraduate thesis entitled “Thailand’s Diplomacy To Have Thaksin Shinawatra Extradited From British Following The Coup From 2006 Until 2008” is mainly explaining and discussing about the Thailand’s diplomacy toward British Government to extradite Thaksin. Thaksin Shinawatra was the former Thailand’s Prime Minister and a bloodless coup by Junta military had to end his political carrier. Since the coup happened in September 2006 Thaksin refused to stay in Thailand and he chose to have an exile in British for more than a year. After his cronies through People Power Party won the general election in December 2007, Thaksin decided to go back to Thailand and face is court. On August 2008, when Thailand’s Supreme Court gave the guilty verdict with two years imprison punishment Thaksin decided to have another exile in British. Thailand Government needs to bring Thaksin home through extradition process due to the law enforcement. Within this thesis, Thailand’s diplomatic efforts will be divided into two parts. The first one is through informal diplomacy and the second one is informal diplomacy. The formal one includes the procedures like sending a formal request and petition and the informal one includes visiting British to discuss what step should be done by Thailand government to draft the request. Two concepts are used to describe Thailand’s diplomacy, namely strategy and diplomacy. The Thailand’s diplomacy is considered as Thailand’s strategy to extradite Thaksin from British. Thailand needs strategy to ask the extradition from British and one of the strategy was through diplomacy. The result of Thailand’s diplomatic effort is Thaksin’s cancelation visa by British Government.
