Play activity can improve cognitive function, emotional, social and psychological aspect of the individu. The aim of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of play activity towards the cognitive function score of elderly post-disaster from the Mt. Merapi eruption. The design of this research was a quasi experimental with pre test and post test control group design. This research involved two villages in the Cangkringan district of Yogyakarta. The researcher involved 17 elders for the experimental group and 20 elders for the control group by using the purposive sampling as the sample collecting technique. For the experimental group, the playing activity was given for 45 minutes during the session, twice a week for 4 weeks. The play activity divided into four kind of games wich are Family Genogram Scrapbook, Puzzle, Charade, and Play doh (forming clay/plasticine). The statistic result of the independent t-test shows a non significant mean difference of MMSE score between the experimental and control group (p=0,318). It confirms that play activities are less effective in increasing the MMSE score in elderly post-disaster from the Mt. Merapi eruption.
