Abstract

Background: Injuries to cause disruption of the gingival gingival protection against infection or mechanical damage. Wound healing process can be seen through several parameters, one of which is the density of collagen fibers. Antiinflammatory or anti-inflammatory often needed in the wound healing process is mainly to prevent prolonged inflammatory reaction. However, drugs have side effects of chemical products to health problems. Therefore, it takes all natural medicines that have similar effectiveness with chemical drugs, but does not cause side effects. Ethanol extract of leaves of Plumeria acuminata Ait has significant anti-inflammatory effects on acute inflammation and chronic inflammation. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of ethanol leaf extract ointment frangipani (Plumeria acuminata Ait) on gingival wound healing. Methods: The design of a study is the in vivo experimental laboratories using test animals. The subjects of this study using Sprague-Dawley rats 36 male ± 3 months old weighing 200-250 grams. Test data analysis using statistical parametric one-way ANOVA if the data were normally distributed and otherwise normal if not using Kruskall Wallis statistical test. Results: (1) In the treatment of 7 days, the highest density of collagen fibers found in Ait Accuminata administration with a mean of 2.27; (2) Treatment of 5 days, the highest density of collagen fibers were also found in Ait Accuminata administration with a mean of 2.3; (3) Treatment of 3 days, the highest density of collagen fibers found in Ait Accuminata administration with a mean of 2.2; (4) Treatment of 1 day, the highest density of collagen fibers found in giving kenalog (positive group) with a mean of 1.3; (5) Results of Kruskall Wallis statistical test on the negative control, significance value 0.503 (sig.> 0.05); for the positive control, significance value 0.914 (sig.> 0.05); of ethanol extract of leaves Accuminata Ait, significance value 0.083 (sig.> 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that in each of the three treatment groups showed no significant difference in the thickness of collagen fibers in the gingival wound healing process. Conclusion: There is no difference in the effect of ethanol extract ointment frangipani leaf, positive control (kenalog), and negative control (distilled water) on gingival wound healing process.
