Abstract

The need for fuel oil energy increases with population and technology. One
of the most comonly used fuels is diesel, but along with the large use of these
fuels, it triggers a gap between demand and availability. In overcoming this, it is
necessary to have alternative fuels to reduce dependence on diesel fuel. One
alternative fuel that can be used is biodiesel with raw material for Calophyllum
Inophyllum oil and used cooking oil. The purpose of this study was to determine
the characteristics of Calophyllum Inophyllum oil biodiesel fuel - used cooking
oil includes power, specific fuel consumption, and fuel injection.
In the research process, the engine was used a single-cylinder diesel engine
which is connected to the generator by loading in the form of 5 lights, where each
lamp's power of 500 Watt is turned on sequentially. Biodiesel fuel is varied with
diesel fuel into B5, B10, B15, and B20. The mixing process is carried out for 60
minutes with a heating temperature of 70oC. After that testing the physical
properties of diesel fuel and biodiesel. Performance testing of diesel engines, as
well as testing the characteristics of injectors.
The results showed that diesel fuel has a lower specific fuel consumption
than biodiesel fuel B5, B10, B15, and B20 in the amount of 0.052 kg / kW.hour.
Then for the highest power is diesel fuel of 1.56372 kW at 2500 Watt loading.
Testing the spray characteristics obtained by B20 and B15 fuel has a longer spray
length compared to diesel fuel. But for the angle, B20 and B15 are smaller than
B5 and B10.
