Abstract

This undergraduate thesis discusses about Democracy and Reconciliation in South Africa post apartheid era especially in the administration of Nelson Mandela. His administration becomes an important time which showed the transition condition of South Africa from apartheid to democracy. Several conditions of South Africa in the era of apartheid will become the inception of this thesis in order to make the reader understand the background of the problem. The problem happened during the era of apartheid when the colonialist from white race put many discrimination toward South African society which are consist of several race including blacks. Yet, in the year of 1990 or in the time of Democracy transition, a reverse condition and reconciliation between South African and white race occurred. It was clearly seen that there was a big comparison in South Africa at apartheid era and the post apartheid. Based on the research question which starts by using ‘why’ and the theory that used in this thesis, the reconciliation in the transition of Democracy in South Africa can be analyzed by define it into two aspects, elites and societies. In the end concludes that the reconciliation also can be achieved in the conflict of plural society in South Africa.
