Abstract
This research aims to find out the students’ perception on the teachers pedagogical competences. In this research, there are seven important aspects of pedagogical competence that became the focus of this research. Those are: (1). teachers ability to know the characteristics of students; (2). teachers ability to develop learning theories and the principles of learning; (3). teachers ability to develop curriculum; (4). teachers ability to create learning activities that educate students; (5). teachers ability to develop the students’ potential; (6). the teachers ability to communication with students, and; (7). teachers ability to asses and evaluate learning. These seven pedagogical competences are chosen as the focus in this research because, as in the Indonesian education law No. 14/2005, they are the required pedagogical competences that Indonesian teachers must have. This research used qualitative research approach using interviews. Six PBI UMY students batch 2010 participated in this study. The results showed that the participants agreed that the teachers of PBI UMY have good competency in knowing the students characters, understanding learning theories and principals, developing curriculum, creating learning activities that educate students, developing students’ potential, developing effective communication with students. However, participants perceived that teachers’ ability to assess and evaluate still needs to be improved
