KEPENTINGAN RUSIA MENDUKUNG PIHAK PEMERINTAHAN BASSAR AL-ASSAD DALAM KONFLIK DI SURIAH PADA TAHUN 2011-2013.

The most important part in this paper is to explain Russia’s interest to support Bassar al-Assad government in Syria’s conflict (2011-2013). To explain the main topic in this paper, the writer used the concept of national interest. the concepts explained that a nation should keep and defend its influence to other country to get its national interest. In writing this paper, the writer used descriptive method, data collection techniques, and all materials used are taken from books, journals, and other sources from newspaper, website, and other sources report. Next, these data will be arranged and analyzed in accordance with the issue that will be investigated. Russia is the largest country inherited the legacy of the Soviet Union. Relationship between Russia-Syria has been existed since soviet times. The conflict in Syria has caused Russia to support its ally to avoid a military invasion as what has happened in Libya. Russia’s support for President Bassar alAssad was clearly shown when Russia dropped its veto right in front of UN security council to refuse military sanction. The result showed that, Russia has national interest in Syria and as the result Russia did not want president Bassar alAssad to step down. Russia’s national interest in Syria were in economic and military sectors, which was to keep their port of Tartus in Syria, to sell military weapons, to build Russian-Iran gas pipeline passing through Syria (Mediterranean) and to import oil.
