Abstract

2019 became a big moment in the democratic party in Indonesia. In that year, a General
Election was held to elect members of the Regional Representative Council (DPRD) from the
regency / city to the provincial level, the House of Representatives (DPR), the Regional
Representative Council (DPD), and the president and vice president. In contrast to the election
of members of the legislature, the presidential and vice presidential election (Pilpres) has a
tighter competition. The Presidential Election contest was only filled by two potential pairs,
namely Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin and Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno. On May 21, 2019
the KPU announced the results which stated the Jokowi-Amin pair was superior to PrabowoSandi. Not accepting these results, the Prabowo-Sandi camp filed a lawsuit on the results of
the 2019 Presidential Election to the Constitutional Court (MK). After going through the court
process, the Constitutional Court finally delivered its decision on June 27, 2019 at the
Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta. The result was that the Court rejected the lawsuit filed
by Prabowo-Sandi's camp and endorsed the Jokowi-Amin victory vote. Of course it invited the
attention of various national print media to report on the Constitutional Court's decision. This
study aims to determine the framing made by the newspaper Kompas and Media Indonesia in
announcing the announcement of the results of the 2019 Presidential Election dispute. This
study uses a qualitative approach and the method used is the analysis of William A Gamson's
framing model. The data of this study is the newspaper Kompas and Media Indonesia edition
28 June - 3 July 2019.
The results of this study indicate that there are several frames of the news by the two
newspaper. The results show that Kompas Daily has 4 news frames including: legitimate
election results, appreciation for the presidential election implementers, reconciliation of
political elites, and critics of merging coalitions. Whereas in Media Indonesia, 3 news frames
were found including: the victory of Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin in the 2019 Presidential
Election, the invitation to unite to build the nation after the 2019 Presidential Election, and the
positive image of Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin. In addition, this study found that the factors
affecting the frame of news came from internal media organizations such as media routines
and media ownership. Whereas external media organizations are sources of information,
advertisers and audiences.
