Abstract
Background: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) following Hemodialysis (HD)
therapy has increased and has become the 18th cause of death in the world.
Depression is one of the psychological problems most often experienced by HD
patients. One type of complementary therapy that can be done to overcome the
patient's depression problem is Islamic Spiritual Care (ISC).
Objective: To determine the effect of ISC therapy on reducing depression
levels in HD patients at RSUD Dr. R. Soedjono Selong, East Lombok.
Methods: This study is a quantitative study with a quasy experimental design
pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group. Samples were taken using
purposive sampling of 40 people. The measuring instrument for depression is
BDI-II, normality test uses Shapiro-Wilk, and data analysis uses Wilcoxon,
independent t-test, and effect size.
Results: There was a decrease in the level of depression in the pretest with the
category of major depression (6 respondents) reduced after being given
intervention at the posttest (1 respondent). Wilcoxon analysis showed a value
of 0.003 (p <0.05) and the independent t-test showed a significant value of
0.017 with a significant difference in mean scores (3.950 [7,116 - 0.784])
between the control group and the intervention group. The result of the test
using the Effect Size is 0.82001, which means that ISC therapy has a major
effect on reducing depression levels in HD patients.
Conclusion: ISC therapy has an effect on reducing depression level in HD
patients.
