Abstract
This study aims to determine how the ngayun ceremony is carried out and to know what
da’wah messages are contained in the ngayun ceremony. This study used a qualitative
research method with an ethnographic approach. This research was conducted in Cibanten
Village, Cijulang Subdistrict, Pangandaran Regency, one of the southernmost districts of
West Java Province renowned for its traditions and culture. Data collection was carried out
by means of in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, and observation. The results
show that the ngayun ceremony was carried out seven or forty days after the baby’s birth
by the people of Cibanten village, who are one hundred percent Muslim. The purpose of
holding ngayun ceremony is an expression of gratitude to Allah SWT, who has given them
offspring. There are several symbols as signs and philosophies such as janur kuning (young
yellow coconut leaves), yellow bamboo, and various kinds of ketupat (rice wrapped in palm
leaves). When the ngayun ceremony is performed, the sentences of prayer and the Qur’an
are recited. There are six da’wah messages in the ngayun ceremony, namely messages in
the fields of faith, akhlaq (moral), worship, muamalah (social duty), and the ceremony’s
purpose and the orientation of the da’wah messages. Basically, in general, ngayun
ceremony aims to educate people to become generous human beings. In addition to
educating the public, it is also focused on the baby to become a generous human being from
an early age as it is exemplified
