Abstract
ABSTRACT
Basil (Ocimum sanctum) is herbal plant a lot of found in Indonesia. One of
the substance contained in the basil, has anti-platelet's effect. This effect is
assocjated with platelet function as a mechanical plug in the event of vascular
injury during the normal homeostatic response. The disturbance in platelet
function will disturb the blood 'clotting process. Therefore, it need to be known its
impact on the number of platelet. This research is a laboratory experimental
research that have aim to prove the extent of basil (Ocimum. sanctum) influence on
the changing (increasing or decreasing) the number of blood platelets. This
research used 12 Mus musculus as a sample. The Mus musculus divided into 3
groups, namely group of basil agueous dose 250 mg/day, group of basil agueous
dose 500 mg/day and the control group. We used clopidogrel as a positive control
to determined the effectiveness. The analysis of paired sample test and one-way
anova showed the existence of anti-platelet effect in the basil agueous group dose
500 mg/day, significant in statistics and calculation. This proves that basil has
anti-platelet effect by inhibiting platelet aggregation, although its effectiveness is
smaller than clopidogrel — the standard of anti-platelet's drug.
