Abstract

Avverhoa bilimbi L. is a well known and widely growth plant in Indonesia. Some studies recently shown that Avverhoa bilimbi L. has potential as a source of dietary antioxidant since it's chemical characteristic. Alkaline phosphatase is one of marker on any causes of cellular hepatic damage. The purpose of this research is to know the hepatoprotective activity ofAvverhoa bilimbi L.. This laboratory experiment research was using pretest posttest control group design. Object of this research were 10 adult of Rafts novergicus, separated into two groups; control and experiment groups. Each member of experiment group was treated by 125 mg/kg body weight Avverhoa bilimbi L. juice for 12 days daily, but only aquadest for control group at the same time. Measurement of plasma ALP level in each object has done before the Avverhoa bilimbi L. juice treatment. After the treatment completed, all rats were injected by CC14 intraperitoneally with the dosage 1 cc/kg body weight to induce liver damage. Post measurement of plasma ALP was conducted 24 hours after CC14 induction. The result was statistically analyzed using Independent t-test and paired t-test. Paired t-test shown that there was significant differences between the amount of ALP before and after treatment, control group 48,062 ± 0,71573 IU and 75,6520 ± 2,58993 IU; experiment group 48,8920 ± 0,64286 IU and 61,4300 ± 1,51995 IU (p<0,05). Independent t-test for post treatment measurement shown that there was significant differences between control and experiment groups. ALP plasma level after treatment both increased, but in control groups is statistically higher than experiment groups with p<0,001 (p<0,05). In conclusion, Avverhoa bilimbi L. juice administration significantly shown hepatoprotective activity.
