PENGARUH METODE SUPLEMENTASI BESI DUA KALI SEMINGGU DIBANDINGKAN SETIAP HARI TERHADAP PARAMETER BESI DAN PRESTASI AKADEMIK PADA ANAK SD KELAS VI

Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) is anemia due to the deficiency of iron supplementation for erythropoiesis as the result of depleted iron store which effects on the forming of hemoglobin which becomes less in number. IDA makes the development of brain not optimal; physically weaken; deficiency in immune system and difficult to concentrate, which, at last, effects on working activities and human quality. Iron parameter which is applied to do IDA is ferritin, iron serum; and MCV also do simple check and not specific, is Hb check.
The method of this research is Randomized Control Trial (RCT). The research is purposed to compare the effectiveness of daily iron supplementation method and a twice-week iron supplementation method. The subject of this research is Sekolah Dasar (Elementary School) grade VI student, divided into two groups — a twice week iron supplementation method and dailiy iron supplementation method. Iron parameter is measured twice — before therapy and after therapy. Academic achievement is measured by comparing academic report between the first and second semester. The result of paired t test shows that there is significant difference in the level of Hb, MCV, Ferritin, iron serum and academic achievement before and after therapy in each group. The result of independent t test implies that there is no significant different effect between a twice week and daily supplementation methods.
The conclusion of this research is that the method of iron deficiency supplementation given twice a week compared to daily supplementation significantly increase level of Hb, ferritin, MCV, iron serum and academic achievement. A twice week method result in same effect with daily supplementation.
