Abstract
White flesh guava leaves (Psidium Guajava Linn) contain active compound tannin, atsiri oil, fat and malat acid which is proven as anti bacteria. Streptococcuss mutants is a type of bacteria which has ability in the plaque and carries process. The aim of this research is to investigate whether White flesh guava leaves (Psidium Guajava Linn) is able to hinder the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria. The research was the laboratory experimental by applying the well diffuSion method. Saburound Broth was applied as the media. The tested materials were the extracts of white flesh guava leaves, which were made into three concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The Streptococuss mutans bacteria were gained from pure breeding taken from the oral cavity. One ose suspension of Streptococcus mutans bacteria was inoculated in Muller Hilton Agar. Each sector was made four well, and three well for the tested sector and one for control sector. Each well was showered with the extracts of white content guava leaves. The media was incubated in 24 hours at 37°C. the potential anti bacteria radical zone was measured -using the accuracy sliding caliper of 0,01. The Anova test and LSD 0,05 were applied to analyze the gained data. The result showed that there was a significant difference on the hindrance force for the growth of Streptococcus mutans bacteria for each extract concentration of white flesh guava leaves (Psidium Guajava Linn) with Anova test which was gained the value of 0,00 (p<0,005). Based on the result of LSD0,05 test, the extract of white flesh guava leaves with the concentration of 15% had the greater effectiveness for hindering the bacteria growth compared to the concentration of 10% and 5%, 10% > 5%. It can be concluded that the extracts of white flesh guava leaves have the antibacterial force towards the Streptococcus mutans bacteria and if the extract concentration of white flesh guava leaves is raised, the hindrance efforts will be greater.
