Abstract
Hypercholesterolemia is a very dangerous condition for health and even threaten death. Disease in elderly close relation to the condition of hypercholesterolemia and worse with the present of hypertension. Administration of drugs statins are widely used by health personnel as a cholesterol-lowering drugs. Statins work in inhibit the formation of cholesterol in the blood circulation. Oyster mushroom is one of many cultivated plants and is known to contain lovastatin (statin strain), so need research to determine the effect of oyster mushroom on LDL cholesterol levels. It was an experimental study to determine the effects of oyster mushrooms on LDL cholesterol levels. The design used was group pretest posttest design. The population is aging at Panti Sosial Tresna Wredha Bantul. The subject is the elderly who have hypercholesterolemia (> 200mg/d1), want to become respondents, and do not consume cholesterol-lowering drugs. Subjects to be checked LDL cholesterol levels, after it was treated in the form of wet oyster mushroom capsules of normal people consumption per day (50 grams) which is equivalent to 2.91 grams of dried oyster mushrooms. Giving lasted for two weeks. Once it is done checking again to determine LDL cholesterol levels after treatment. From the results of Wilcoxon test showed significant changes (p<0,05) between LDL cholesterol levels before and after treatment with the percentage decrease of 64.9%.
