Abstract

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has an impact on the entire world, including Indonesia. One of the impact was education system has changed into learn from home using internet (online). One of the effort to increase dental health knowledge was through health promotion. School-aged children had higher risk to dental and oral diseases. Social media could be used to complete the health promotion as a newer media. Whatsapp as one of the social media has a video call feature. The purpose of this study was to knowing the effect of education through Whatsapp video call to the level of dental health knowledge in children aged 6-8 years in RW 01, Adipala Village, Cilacap, Central Java. Methods: This research was quasi-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. This study was conducted by providing dental health education using Whatsapp video call to children aged 6-8 years, involving 15 children. Pretest and posttest were given using online questionnaires. The results were analyzed by using Paired T-test. Results: The result of 0.000 (p <0.005), which showed that there was a significant difference in the level of dental health knowledge in children aged 6-8 years, before and after given dental helath education through Whatsapp video call media. Conclusion: Dental Health Education using Whatsapp video call media has an effect in improving dental health knowledge of children aged 6-8 years.
