Abstract
Background: Composite resin restoration is a restoration that often used because it has good aesthetic and high biocompatibility. Disadvantages of this restorations are the occlusal formation process that requires skill and a long time. The Stamp technique is a technique that uses a method of duplicating the occlusal anatomy prior to cavity preparation so the treatment time more efficient and produce better occlusal anatomy. Composite resin often undergo polymerization shrinkage. Polymerization Shrinkage causes failure of the composite bond with dentin, then form an interfacial gap that cause microleakage, discoloration of the edges and secondary caries. Objective: To compare the microleakage rate of composite resin with the Stamp technique and without the Stamp technique. Methods: The type of this research is experimental laboratory. 10 premolars were prepared in class I cavities, 4 mm deep (3x3x4), divided into 2 groups; Group I (Stamp technique) and Group II (without Stamp technique). Microleakage was measured using a stereomicroscope 40x after immersed in 2% methylene blue for 24 hours and cut with a flat disc wheel bur. The color penetration score was analyzed by Cohen's Kappa test, followed by univariate analysis of the frequency distribution table and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The frequency distribution table shows that group II has a higher microleakage value than group I. The Mann-Whitney U test show the highest microleakage was in group II with a significance value of 0.018 (p<0.05). There was a significant difference in the level of microleakage between Stamp Technique and without Stamp Technique.
