Abstract
Background: menopause is one of a few cycles a women may experience during her period of life and may starts at age 45-50. Estrogen deficiency in menopausal women may induce manifestation of menopause symptoms such as night sweat, sleep disturbance, anxiety, and muscle and joints problem. Estrogen takes part in various body metabolism despite regulating reproduction cycle, thus its level may affect individual’s general health. Estrogen level in menopausal women is related to increased risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, thus cause increased severity of menopausal symptoms and immune system impairment. Impaired immune system in menopausal women cause a higher severity level of COVID-19 when they are infected. This study aimed to evaluate the relation between menopause duration and severity level of menopausal symptoms and immune status of menopausal women during COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: 36 participants that attended in regular check up were included and asked to fill in the MRS and ISQ questionnaire. The obtained data then were analyzed using multiple linear regression method. Result: no statistically significant relation was found among the study variables (p = 0.078). According to MRS questionnaire, the most common menopausal symptoms were vulvovaginal atrophy (69.4%), anxiety (63.9%), and sleep disturbance (47.2%). According to ISQ questionnaire, the most common complaints were muscle and joints pain (77.7%), skin problems (44.4%), and headache (41.6). Conclusion: Immune status in menopausal women is not significantly related to menopausal duration and symptoms. Possible confounding factors should be considered.
