Abstract
Background: Untreated caries can cause pulpitis and affect quality of life. Pulp treatments such as pulp capping are mostly carried out in hospitals in Indonesia. The quality of the restoration affects the success of pulp capping thus evaluation is needed. Aim: This study aimed to assess the final restoration using a periapical radiograph of indirect pulp capping by comparing the type and duration of restoration. Material and Method: An analytic observational study with cohort retrospective study design was conducted at the Dental Hospital Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. A total of 88 samples of periapical radiographs were grouped based on restoration type into direct and indirect, and based on duration into less than a month and more than a month. The evaluation criteria used were 0 if there are radiographic appearances indicating restoration failure characterized by poor marginal adaptation, poor restoration contour, and poor proximal or occlusal contact, 1 if there are two radiograph appearances indicating restoration failure, 2 if one radiographic appearance indicating restoration failure, and 3 if there are radiographic appearances indicating the success of the restoration. The Mann-Whitney U statistical test was used to compare the evaluation result. Result: The statistical analysis showed that there was no statistical difference in the success of the final restoration based on the type (p=0.055; p>0.05) and duration of the restoration (p=0.599; p>0.05). Conclusion: It can be concluded that there was no difference in the success of the final restoration based on its type and duration.
