Abstract

Background: Polishing procedure was an important step in composite resin restoration. There are two types of polishing techniques, which are one-step and multistep polishing procedure. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the surface roughness value of composite resin ormocer with one-step and multistep polishing procedure. Methods: This study was true laboratory experiments. Thirty-two cylindrical of composite resin ormocer with 4mm of diameter and thickness were prepared. Specimens were divided into 2 groups. The first group were polished with one-step (PoGo and Optrapol) and the second group were polished with multistep (Sof-Lex disc and Optodisc). The surface roughness of the specimens was measured using stylus profilometer surfcorder SE 1700. Data obtained was analyzed using independent t-test and One Way ANOVA. Result: There was significant difference in surface roughness of one-step and multistep groups (p ≤ 0.05). The lowest value of surface roughness belongs to SofLex disc group (0.5128 μm) and the highest value of surface roughness belongs to PoGo group (1.1477 μm). Conclusion: Composite resin ormocer polished using multistep technique produced lower surface roughness value compared to one-step technique.
