Abstract
Background : Dental and oral health problems that are often experienced by the elderly are tooth loss. This is caused by tooth extraction in the last period, as well as trauma. Tooth loss can affect the ability to chew so that nutritional intake in the elderly decreases. This then affects the quality of life of the elderly, so that the use of dentures is expected to improve the quality of life of the elderly who used them. Objective : To describe the quality of life of the elderly using dentures at RSGM UMY. Method : This research is a descriptive observational study with a cross sectional approach. The respondents of this study were 60 denture users at RSGM UMY aged 60 – 75 years. The instruments used in this study included medical records of RSGM UMY, GOHAI questionnaire, and dummy table. The variables of this study were measured using the GOHAI questionnaire in the form of a google form which was distributed through the respondent's telephone number. The questionnaires of this study included the quality of life, types of dentures, and denture maintenance by the respondents. Analysis of the data used in the form of a frequency distribution. Results : Shows that 88% of respondents tend to have a poor quality of life. Respondents who use fixed dentures, respondents who clean their dentures by immersing them in denture cleaning fluid and respondents who have a habit of not removing their dentures during sleep tend to have a poor quality of life. Conclusion : The majority of elderly patients who use dentures at RSGM UMY have a poor quality of life.
