Abstract
Dental caries is a universal disease which can be experienced by all ages whose sufferers are 89% children. One way to prevent dental caries is to understand the risk factors. The risk factors of Irene's donut method can help parents in order to determine the risk of dental caries in their childern. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the incidence of dental caries and the risk factors of the Irene's donut method. This study was analytic observational with a retrospective case-control design. The populations in this study were all Al-Azhar 31 Play Group-Kindergarden (n=31) who took dental examinations that noted as medical record using purposive sampling technique. The data were analyzed by using Chi-square test. This study shows that children's behavior; such as, like to drink soft drinks (p = 0.045), consume candy (p = 0.006), and mother's knowledge (p = 0.020) have a significant relationship with dental caries. Meanwhile, other child's behavior, child's environment, and mother's behavior do not have a significant relationship with dental caries. There was a relationship between the drinking soft drinks, consumption of sweets, and mother's knowledge with the incidence of dental caries in KB-TK Al-Azhar 31 Yogyakarta. Meanwhile, there is no relationship between other child's behavior, child's environment, and mother's behavior with dental caries.
