Abstract
Background: Lack of maintaining dental and oral health can cause diseases including caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, gum abscess, tooth erosion, and even to the point of causing oral cancer. Severe dental conditions can cause infection. Tooth extraction is the last resort to inhibit the spread of the infections. However, tooth extraction is a surgical procedure that can cause complications. This happens because of the complex stewardship procedures that can cause complications. Complications can be prevented by delaying tooth extraction. This step often carried out by dentists at RSGM UMY. The purpose of this study is to find out the factors that cause tooth extraction delays in RSGM UMY. Methods: This type of research is observational descriptive with a study retrospective research design. The study sample was patient with delayed tooth extraction who met the research criteria and was carried out using purposive sampling technique. The inclusion criteria are medical record data for patients visiting RSGM UMY on January-December 2019 which contains information on medical record numbers, age over 26 years, sex and factors that cause tooth extraction delays. Results: In 392 populations, 128 samples (32.6%) of patients with delayed tooth extraction for the period January-December 2019 were found. Delayed extraction was more common in women with 75 subjects, compared to men as many as 53 subjects and the most cases in the age range of 26 to 35 years. The three biggest causative for delayed tooth extraction were inflammation 79 cases (61.7%), others (refer to radiology) 38 cases (29.7%), and hypertension 5 cases (3.9%). Conclusion: the biggest factor causing tooth extraction delay found in RSGM UMY for the period January-December 2019 was inflammation in 79 cases (61.7%). The second largest is others (refer to radiology) 38 cases (29.7%). Furthermore, there were pain in 5 cases (3.9%), hypertension in 5 cases (3.9%), and hypotension in 1 case (0.8%).
